Bottom-of-Funnel (BOFU) Content

Full form: Bottom-of-Funnel content

Quick definition

Content targeting searchers who are close to buying — comparisons, alternatives, pricing, and use-case pages.

01
Foundations
New to SEO? Start here.

Bottom-of-funnel content targets people who are close to a decision: "X vs Y" comparisons, "best tools for Z" roundups, "[competitor] alternatives", pricing explainers, and specific use-case pages. Search volume is lower than for broad awareness topics, but intent and conversion rate are far higher — these are prospects with a wallet out.

02
Practitioner
Doing the work day to day.

Map the queries buyers use right before they choose, and build the page type each one wants (comparison table, alternatives list, use-case page). Be honest and genuinely useful even when covering competitors — buyers can smell a rigged comparison, and trust is what converts here. Wire these pages into your internal linking and prioritise them; for many SaaS sites they are the fastest SEO path to revenue.

03
Senior lens
Strategy, trade-offs, judgement.

The senior call is sequencing and defensibility. BOFU is usually where a SaaS SEO program should start — it produces pipeline fastest and proves ROI before you invest in broad top-of-funnel content. Owning the comparison and alternatives queries around your category intercepts buyers at the decision point, often ahead of competitors who only chase traffic. The strategic risk is over-indexing on BOFU alone and never building the awareness layer that feeds it long term.

DKDavor’s take

If a SaaS team asks where to start with SEO, the answer is almost always BOFU. Ranking for "[competitor] alternatives" and "best X for Y" puts you in front of people already reaching for their card. Start where the money is, then work upward.

Common mistakes
Starting with broad awareness content and ignoring the high-intent BOFU queries that convert.
Writing rigged, self-serving comparisons that readers immediately distrust.
Dismissing BOFU because the search volume looks small next to top-of-funnel terms.
In practice
Ranking for "[competitor] alternatives" captures users actively shopping to switch — some of the highest-converting traffic in all of SEO.
