Entity

Quick definition

A distinct, well-defined thing — a person, place, brand, or concept — that search engines recognise and connect.

01
Foundations
New to SEO? Start here.

An entity is a distinct, uniquely identifiable thing: a person, company, place, product, or concept. Search engines increasingly understand the world as a web of connected entities (a knowledge graph) rather than just strings of text — so "Apple" the company is a different entity from "apple" the fruit, and each has known relationships to others.

02
Practitioner
Doing the work day to day.

Help engines recognise and disambiguate your entities: use Organization, Person, and Product schema, keep names and details consistent everywhere (NAP, bios, profiles), and build a clear "about" footprint with sameAs links to authoritative profiles. The goal is to be an unambiguous, well-connected node — for your brand, your key people, and the concepts you want to own.

03
Senior lens
Strategy, trade-offs, judgement.

Entity SEO is where modern search and GEO converge: knowledge panels, rich results, and AI citations all depend on the machine cleanly resolving who and what you are. Senior practitioners run entity-based strategies — establishing entity identity, earning associations with the right topics, and building consistency across the web — because as AI answers grow, being a recognised entity is what gets you named rather than omitted.

DKDavor’s take

The web is moving from keywords to entities, and most brands are still invisible as entities. If the machines cannot cleanly answer "what is this company and what is it known for", they will cite the competitor they can. Entity clarity is the new table stakes.

Common mistakes
Inconsistent brand, name, and detail information scattered across the web.
Skipping Organization and Person schema and sameAs connections.
Thinking only in keywords while search shifts to entities and relationships.
In practice
Consistent Organization schema, matching profiles, and sameAs links help Google build a knowledge panel and let AI engines confidently name the brand.
